I have set up a few sites (Nothing worth posting) before- but I have just inherited our companies websites and I made an edit to a few pages - but I am puzzled by somthing.....

www.rooturl.com/ is different than www.rooturl.com/index.html (not the real urls - the links were automatic)

All I can "see" from FTP and my editor are the Index.html, and I can not get the rooturl.com to change...

I am stumped - is this a server timing issue, i.e. the server only updates the root form the index.html file over time?

That (server timing) seems to be it....I gues I just needed a little patience - but the edits took about an hour to update...

Sounds like your problem has been solved with the suggestion to empty your browser cache, or your browser's eventual check online for a new page.

Another possibility for why example.com/ and example.com/index.html can be different is because some Web site administrators may use .htaccess (on Apache) to specify a different name for the default page, using:

DirectoryIndex pagename.html

I ran into that situation some years ago when a friend let me post my site on his server, and I ended up with having to use example.com/myfolder/index.html.
