Does anyone use shared hosting that gives you "unlimited" or "unmetered" space or bandwidth/transfer.

It think its ridiculous that some people even bother to choose hosting that gives that. Unlimited or unmetered means many unknown restrictions.

In reality none of those companies can really offer what they advertise. It is adviced that you never purchasing hosting when the companies claims you are getting "unmetered" bandwith included.

Unlimited, when you think about it, is virtually impossible. Often there are a lot of disclaimers for these types of sites and they have fine print that usually says what exactly unlimited means.

And a lot of that is pure advertising, just to get people to sign up who would never use 50 GB bandwidth a month anyways... heh

This is quite true. A lot of these hosting companies like to brutally assault you with their 20 page TOS. More often than not they are only telling half truths.

 I think what he means by that is that they have really long TOS's and they hide things in them because they know that only a really small amount of people will actually read it all. Its also the wording that they use as a trick. Somethings have double meanings that you don't get for a while or until you break it.

I wouldn't go with any plan offering unlimited offers. I have heard plenty of stories about people getting the boot once they start using a good deal of resources.

I think if you do choose a host that claims "unmetered" or "unlimited" bandwidth/space, you should make sure they're reputable.

never in my life that I would use a service like that, since there are no such thing as unlimited bandwidth.
Most of the companies offering this also often have contracts saying they can take away an account thaat takes to much.

It really depends...

If you go to Joe Schmo's Alexa rank 500,000 hosting company... and he's offering unmetered - You might have someone whos just not gonna give you what he offers...

But then theres ServerMatrix.com ... which I truly believe does give you what you pay for bandwidth wise.

I simply avoid shared hosting. site speed and uptime is of great importance to me.

I do not trust overselling. All it takes is for a couple sites to get in that has tons of downloads available and your site can come to a screeching halt at times. What's worse is if you are not around when it happens, you will have no idea.

There's no such thing as unlimited. No reputable host would claim that as it simply cannot be backup up.
