I've been hosting with DreamHost now for over a year and a half and never had a problem. What kind of trouble did you run into?

They are overselling and I think he hosted his large space and bandwith which is why Dreamhost might had suspended him

I use ASmallOrange.com and I'm using almost 100% of resources and they haven't given me any trouble. Their owner says that he doesn't oversell

Yes, they do oversell, but they clearly state that and they know that only a small amount of people will use the full memory/bandwidth allowances.
They also have clearly stated that they will not suspend account if they have not gone over their bandwidth/memory alottments. The only thing that otherwise could have limited him is CPU cycles.
I don't know. Dreamhost are idiots is a very broad statement, and I'd like more details.

I thought I read where Dreamhost was going to pull the CPU cycle limits clause from their ToS as well.

Calling someone (or something) an idiot without giving an explanation is a bit harsh.
At least, explain why you consider them idiots.

Sorry guys, didn't have time to type at the time, first off I am not suspended or anything like that, don't even use more than 200 GB of bandwidth of my alloted 10,000 GB that I have access to.
Last Sept my server was down quite a bit do to the power outage they had, they promised at that time it wouldn't happen again, last week my server was offline for 24 hours for yeat another power outage, then about every other day since then. One of my forums has 34,000 users, logged on today to find out I now had 4 users with some of my forums from another site that I have mixed in.
Over the years I have had just about every kind of mishap with them, one time they lost all of my data, I said no problem just restore from your nightly backup, they replied a few days later saying they had not had my backup configured correctly, but good news we can restore from a backup that is only about 40 days old or so.
I could go on and on about their inablility as a host, but you get what you pay for, hell I pay 555.00 a month for my server there which doesn't even seem cheap, I am looking at rackspace or liquidweb at the moment before I have a heart attack.

One of their big problems is that they do not own their data center, I will not make that mistake again.

I see now.
I don't know if they're idiots, they may be just new to this whole business (I don't know them, I can't say) hosting. Maybe they're just incompetent too.
You should ask for some money back and start looking for another host.
And please, use the EDIT function ;p

Well, my shared hosting with Dreamhost has been good so far. I also experienced downtime due to the power outage over the weekend, but that was a set of circumstances that I really don't think they could control. I mean, first they were having a power outage due to the high usage of power in the datacenter's city so the generator kicked in. Then, the generator caught on fire somehow.
By all means, move your business if you want to, but I really don't think they're idiots. I've had only pleasant experiences so far.

Their shared hosting isn't that big of a problem, in fact after their shared sites were up and it was reported that everything was OK, my dedicated server was still down. You could imagine after your server was down for a day, you log into their status page and read that everything is back to normal when in fact your dedicated box was indeed still offline and of course you can't call them or any thing to let them know.
I have had many network problems over the years with them, after a while it just gets to me, maybe I should start drinking.

I would highly recommend rackspace.com for managed servers. Or you can always get a decent server from rackspace.net and hire a server administrator. Both options have their own cons and pros.
I would be glad to assist you if you need any help.

Remember, even a site as large as MySpace had it's site go down for 12 hours due to power outages. There is a lot of that going around right now.
I just switched to dreamhost about 2 months ago, after being at another hosting company for 2 years. I was pleasantly surprised at the difference in customer service. I suppose it's all relevant to what you have experienced in the past. I have had terrible hosting over the last 2 years, and was actually told that I shouldn't care that I was losing 50% of my emails! But dreamhost has been much better, with my limited exposure to them so far.

I payed $10 for 1 year's worth of hosting, and a domain. If they have 95% uptime, tha'ts good enough for me.

$10 a year?
I'm on dreamhost and I only payed about 25$ because I got a huge discount, but next year it will cost more (which I don't mind paying). Lately my site has been down though, coincidence that I changed to vbulletin, I know that vbulletin isn't the problem though. It has been pissing me off, hopefully it doesn't go down tonight because today is when I get the most traffic.
