Hey,

So I've heard so many good things about HostGator and I decided to do the switch. I talked to a sales rep and they told me that they would move the site for free within hours. Great!

So I submitted a ticket to support 1-2 hours later was told that I would have to submit a ticket to transfers department. So instead of forwarding my ticket I would have to redo everything and wait another 1-2 hours. So I did that, wrote out a detailed message of the exact account and what I wanted transfered over.

The account that I wanted transfered over was an addon domain and I explained that very clearly. Anyway I waited another 2-4 hours and got a ticket back saying that they dont do transfer of main accounts and addon domains.

All I wanted was to have the addon domain account transfered over not the main account with the addon domains. The next ticket I got was saying that they were unable to find the database to my forum, so I provided all the login info and now have asked my previous host to find it.

Apparently the database was installed in root and somehow wasnt showing up. Anyway they found it and I have provided the link to that.

It has been exactly 10 hours that has passed without a single word from support telling me the progress or even they have gotten to it.

This is ridiculuos I was promised by a sales rep that the transfer would only take a few hours its been almost 24 hours!

I've had to close down my forum because I have no idea when they will transfer the database and I dont want my members to see a blank screen or database errors.

For a company this big you would think that someone would keep you up to date, I've had hosts that I've paid 2.00 a month with better support than this.

Further more my ticket was upgrade by the sales rep to emergency 9 hours ago.

I am not happy at all, I really epected more than this. I'm losing members and money.

Also my account for this message board has yet to be activated so I cant even access the support forums. Pssh.

Nick

This probably has been the most frustrating support staff I've ever had to work with.

I will pay someone to get this board up and running!

There seemed to be a fellow trying to help but you were getting rude. Host gator is my host and has been the best host I have had. I have never had a problem. Just be patient.

Server load looks amazing and there are only 31 sites on the server that are basic html. woot

I've had horrible experiences with HostGator too. I don't reccomend them to anyone.

Yeah they aren't a very good host. Their dedicated servers haven't been changed in about 4 years either (talked to a rep who said so), lol.

Yeah I too fell for the hype. It's not that they are a terrible host because I've worked with some real pieces of crap. But they are the most overrated host out there in my opinion.

Victims of their own success. They don't oversell but they overcharge and their support is mid-range at best. Like most other hosts in their class don't ever contact them expeting the first person to assist you to actually know what they are talking about.

I dropped them months ago.

I used to use HostGator before I went to a Dedicated Server and have had nothing but a good experience with them, I had plenty of problems on my shared and semi-dedicated plans that were of my own cause or just compatibility issues and they've always helped within a few minutes or hours depending on the problem. I read the thread you posted Dumi, and it really sounds like you are judging them negatively on a service that they provide FREE of charge... ive been with a dozen other hosts and have had tickets sit around for days and calls go unanswered. Half of my family is hosted by them still

It's amazing. Many people have good experiences with Hostgator but not in this forum. Wow... I am with them and have no problems at all.

May be your problem is out of control or anything. Would you update us about this?

They aren't good for hosting large websites.

Shared hosting is never a good choice for big website.

Did you mean the Hostgator dedicated server?

Any host running cPanel was vulnerable to this exploit. HostGator got targeted but they really handled the situation well.

I have been with them with two years and can't complain!
