In my experience, Geocities is the best free hosting service. This is mostly because of reliability. I have has some sites at free hosts that don't give you any adds etc but a big one ended up closing and I had to move all my content to Geocities and pretty much start over there. I lost SERPS and PR (don't know if I had any though). Very frustrating.

I would probably have to agree with you but a problem with them in my view is their support. It takes like 24 hours to get help on an issue.

Their was a very high server load and I wanted to see if they could bring this down which they did

Geocities is only best for new users that don't know or barely know how to make a website. Good free webhosts are mostly the ones that are hosting for posting like Cankoo.com.

Geocities... It was the first host I ever used and I guess it is actually pretty reliable.. although the ads at the side is huge but since that visitors can minimize it so it's a plus :]

Well, I think the recently launched Google Page Creator is not bad either.
