Softlayer is one of the good provider, started by staff from ThePlanet. We don't have servers with them, but consider taking from them as they provide many features like Free unlimited internal traffic, that is if you have two servers, you can transfer unlimited data between the two, good if you use dedicated data base server or similar use.

I've got a server with Softlayer. Can't really complain about anything yet, they have been great.

I would go with either of them really, but maybe give Softlayer a slight edge. I have servers with them both right now.

TRUST me, I have had both Softlayer and ThePlanet, and ThePlanet is horrible! Their customer service is an complete joke, and they have very little options for upgrades on their servers. They put the wrong operating system on my server and it couldn't even recognize the extra ram I bought.

Softlayer on the other hand, is who I currently have. Upgrade possibilities are virtually endless, and support is superb. Highly recomment Softlayer.

I recently switched from ThePlanet to Softlayer, and strongly prefer Softlayer. Support has been great, my server is perfect, and I've ended up with a much better deal than I had at ThePlanet - faster (quality) hardware for about half what I had been paying. The free upgrade from 1GB to 2GB of RAM was great as well. The customer portal, free automated OS reloads, and other nice tools have been great so far as well.

I have liquidweb and they are really good. Any time I have an issue they have it fixed within 10 minutes. I have heard softlayer is good as well.

My current host uses Softlayer. They have been nothing but the best. Server has been very very steady, never any downtime.

The Planet's issues stemmed from the EV1/The Planet merger. They've recovered, relatively speaking.

Moved all my servers from EV1 to Softlayer last October. Been extremely happy with them.

They just released some new server offerings, and a pretty slick API that lets you tie in to just about anything on your server (i.e your control panel), or in their customer portal.
