I own a forum and I was wondering do you think its better for users to verify their email?

I have had users who never got their emails and some who did and some who couldn't be bothered.

Is it really needed and why?

yes, so your sure its not a spam....

There is a fine line to this. Verification is good but if your forum is new, then you had better without verification. Like you said, some users may not want to be bother to check their email. Some has spam filter on the email utility.

new forum, lets have it full of the p0rn, pharmacy, mobile (cell) phone, "reciprocal" link spammers on the internet.

To be honest if your forum makes users not even botherd to check their email why would they come back after posting their first post anyway???
