Hi, I chose a broad part of the forum to post this in because I wasn't quite sure where it belonged, apologies if it was wrong.

I'm trying to block my IP address from appearing on Google Analytics' results to get a better view of whats really coming in, but when it says to enter the IP address it has all sorts of confusing symbols, and says that certain symbols/punctuation stands for x, y and z.

Can anybody shed any light on this?

You just need to use the \ before the . in the IP. So if your IP is:

123.45.678.901

you'd want to enter it as

123\.45\.678\.901

The period (.) has special meaning and the backslash (\) says to ignoring the special meaning and treat the character as a character.

Glad to help. One thing to remember is to keep an eye on your IP address. I have a static one, but from time to time maybe the power here goes out and I have to reboot the dsl box. It's no uncommon to be assigned a different IP and if you do get a new IP you have to remember to change it at Analytics.
