This may be a dumb question but how do you set folder permissions when running on localhost??

I'm using Xampp to run a test server on my windows XP machine.

I have a folder called "upload" that files will be sent to but it needs to be chmod to 777

How do I do this?

I cant seem to connect using Filezilla (although i do have filezilla server but lost as how to run it!)

Cheers

Xampp running under windows does not use permissions.

If you ever upload the site to nix server you will need to CHMOD.

I also don't FTP to my locahost. I just copy the files from where they are to where I want them.

RC the folder and set NTFS permissions on the "Security" tab

I have never had a problem running any script under xampp and windows. No matter what the directions said about permissions they have all worked fine.

If you are I would be willing to bet that Chris gave you the correct answer and I assure you he knows a lot more than I do.

Windows does NOT use flags for permissions. Whereas *nix systems do.

File Permission are used on linux system not for windows.
In windows, it will follow 777 permission automatically.

chmod -R 777 'folder' will recurse through all folders / subfolders.

This part of the original question i would like to know! I have been practicing with a wordpress blog on my home PC, and as I have no ftp username or password provided to me, I would like to know if I can still set up filezilla on my "localhost"(Windows XP x64)?? If so how?

I am a virtual virgin with website maintenance and I would like to set this up purely for practice purposes. To give me practice with uploading and changing website files etc.. Is this possible??

I have tried Googling this but have not found the answers I am after. If I cannot set up ftp on my localhost then a simple no will be sufficient. Cheers...

You can't FTP from your own PC to your own PC.
