Hi All,

I wonder if anyone could offer any advice on the following
issue that has developed. The other night there was a hardware
problem on the rack that took out my server. The server
is now up and running but is not delivering mail - the mail is
sitting in the queue (and filling up) with the following error:

delivery temporarily suspended: connect to 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]: Connection refused

The mail was running fine until the outage.

I have stopped and restarted the various services following some of the
posts I have read but with no success.

I have stopped and restarted ravencore but that hasn't changed
anything.

I think the problem has to do with amavisd which doesn't seem to
want to shut down and comes back with FAILED every time I try.

When I try service amavisd status it comes back with
amavisd is dead but subsys locked
amavis-milter is stopped

I don't want to loose the mail that's in the queue but am unsure as
to what to try next but need to get the mail delivered.

Operating system is centOS 4.6

Any suggestions for this learner would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Steve

Your problem is lying with amavis, which is handle the spam and virus check of the emails.
Usually, postfix (or another mta) is setup to forward incoming mails to the amavis.
And amavis sent them back, flagged as checked to the mta after the check.

Your problem lies that as amavis don't run anymore, the mails are sitting in the queue, waiting to be forwarded.
I'm not running centos, but if that can help you, this is what I used to setup postfix and amavis on my server: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Spam_Fi...ostfix,_Amavis

Many thanks for the reply - appreciated!!

It looks like there was some stale lock files for amavisd - once they were removed
it now runs as normal.

Thanks though for replying and for the info/links.

Cheers
