I have a new site that has just been live for a few days and my webguy that built it is having a problem figuring this out. On certain occasions I cannot load my site when I type in www.myname.net but when I type in myname.net it comes up immediatly. Then there are times during the day they bother work just fine.
When it is not working, like for the past hour, on my desktop i couldnt get it to load at all using www. but on my laptop it would load using www. maybe 1 out of 5 times.
Now, as I write this it is working fine. But I know by later tonight just like last night I will have this same problem.
There doesnt seem to be a definite pattern here.
One thing I did notice is that on occassion when it does come up using www. on my first page the header is shifted to the right about 1 inch, but it adjust to normal when you go the the other pages.
Please help, I have told all my clients about this site and I am afraid that they are having this same problem if they try accessing via www.

It's called DNS propagation. Wait anything up to a week, it depends on many factors like your ISP.

Try clearing your browsers cache and type this in a CMD window, ipconfig /flushdns

If that doesn't work, just wait.

Is myname.net the action domain name, or if not what is it? If its intermittent (on the same ISP / computer / browser) then it sounds more like a DNS(?) problem rather than just propagation.

Check that you have the correct NS records in your DNS zone, as that can produce intermittent results if they don't match your nameservers. Another option may be that the server (e.g. Apache) is having intermittent problems and some of the time you're loading from cache?

If both www and no-www records in DNS are set correctly check your httpd config to ensure that your vhost record has ServerName domain.com and ServerAlias *.domain.com
