I just used .htaccess to restrict a folder on my server, added the .htpasswd file and when I go to the folder (via a browser) I get a Forbidden message and no popup to put in my username and password. I am useing IE7 and have allowed popups for that site and I have een tried with popup blocker turned off. Any clue as to what I need to do?

Look at the error log of your site.
You have an error in the .htaccess.
It might be that you denied access to everybody, or that you mispelled the path to the htpasswd file.
Any problem or logical error in a .htaccess usually ends up in a 500 error.
You need to look at the log to know what really happened.
