Hi everyone,

I'm currently planning to create a website which will contain mainly a directory and a system of news (like times.com). So, i'm wondering which CMS I should choose. I have never used a CMS, so I would prefer an easy-to-use one and I'm mostly hesitating between Joomla, Spip and Drupal...

What do you think about it?

Thanks a lot for your advice.

Cheers,
Loïc

Drupal would be a good choice. It's easy to integrate.

Wordpress is my choice. Although most people use it as a blogging platform, it is technically a CMS, and allows the most flexibility with ease of use.

Between drupal and joomla, Joomla would be the worst choice you could make. joomla is bloatware, and its insecure bloatware on top of that. I have seen too many joomla sites hacked to recommend it for anything.

If you want a secure site, go with drupal. It should serve you well.

Personally I choose for Drupal. One thing that I like with drupal is capability to create php script on block or content

Is there a good guide on converting Wordpress?

I want to do something very similar to the op. I have messed with the Wordpress footer, header and sidebar tags on a generic css layout. However, I'm really confused on modifying Wordpress to have others submit content in a directory style or custom pages. I have looked through the php folders and it seems very intimidating for someone new to php/programming.

Ultimately, I would like to use Worpress as a backend to design sites for others and then they can login to update there front page content etc as they see fit. I find the admin in wordpress to be really friendly in useability.

If you're planning a newspaper style site you might want to consider a CMS that's built for the purpose such as http://www.phpcow.com/, http://www.sosovn.com/ or http://www.vivvo.net/

Have you looked at Graffiti Cms by Telligent? Windows based can run from a MYsql, VistaDB or MsSql database. Easy package to install, if you don't know how to install I know that Server Intellect can Install it for you on a basic hosting package. Nice easy to use, and you can port over wordpress themes if needed.
