Hi guys,

I havn't been on here for a while due to being weighed down with college work but I've found a spare few days and am working on getting my 'experimental' websites up for a purpose as opposed to being there realy for me to learn.

I have removed pointless features and completely re-wrote one of my websites yesterday, but now i'm left to inform Google of the pages which are gone permamently (410) and thoose which have moved (301) but have failed in getting my .htaccess to do what I want.

I have done some googling and modified some rules in my old .htaccess to try and redirect all the old pages to their new ones and the removed pages to a 301 error page.

It seems to have worked, but I cannot get the archive.php rule to work (see htaccess file below). My aim is to keep my htdocs folder tidy so I don't wish to create a page called archive.php, read the GET vars and redirect. Plus I don't know how to tell PHP the redirect is a 301 anyway.

I also would like to check forbidding all theese robots is a good idea. I read it on some website in my browing and just wondering other peoples oppinions on it.

Given the response to my earlier posts along these lines, I would say the resounding consensus (on this forum) to your bot check question at least, is don't waste your time as it only serves to add additional weight to everything served for everyone.

Despite this, I still use a similar technique on servers where I can apply the .htaccess file only to the scripts (i.e. they are in an isolated directory).
