Installing Json_decode??

Im trying to install json_decode on to my Linux Fedora 5 Server.

I followed these instructions

But not sure WHERE I should be installing to....

I tryed in the root folder but got

[root@*** /]# pecl install json

Zend Extension Api No: 220051025
Cannot find autoconf. Please check your autoconf installation and the $PHP_AUTOC ONF
environment variable is set correctly and then rerun this script.

ERROR: `phpize' failed


Any advise would be great!

As PECL tries to compile an extension for PHP, you need the basic stuff for compiling.

automake, autoconf, m4, gcc should be the bare minimum.
You have to install them before.

No, it's designed to be installed that way.
Because of the difference between libraries revision, otherwise you would have 1 binary module for each version of php and each version of the json C library.
