Hi folks,
Planning to set up a Server box running virtualization for "Server consolidation". All clients (domU) are mail server with webmail installed.
Software, all from Open Source
OS - Debian Etch or Ubuntu 8.04
Mail server - postfix, courier, etc.
Database - MySQL
Web - Apache2
Packet filtering - Iptables
Web mail - SquirrelMail
etc.
Virtualization - Xen or Vserver
Dom0 (host) - Debian Etch workstation for installing/configuring mail servers
DomU (client) - Debian Etch, all "Headless", 15~20 mail servers (clients), running concurrently
each domU (client) has its own domain.
Theoretically Xen can support >100 domUs (clients) working concurrently. Having tested 10 domUs (clients), all mail servers, on an "Athlon dual core" box with 4G RAM, DDR2 800, it works without problem.
Single public IP - technically termed "Virtual Domain", all domains pointing at same (one) public IP. Mail clients on LAN can login their servers to download and send mails.
Roaming mail clients can login in their server downloading mails. They can send mails via the routing mail server.
Please shed me some light on hardware configuration, preferably;
CPU - AMD 45nm 3GHz Quad core (low voltage)
RAM - 8G DDR3
HardDisc - 1T
Motherboard with built-in network and vedio (graphic) cards
Actually I don't need graphic card because all servers are headless. The workstation installed on dom0 (host) is for working conenience only. I can run another workstation remote-installing/configuring the servers. Finally the Server will be installed on rack in DataCenter. Graphic card will be of no use.
TIA
B.R.
