Normally, I use ns0.hostingco.com then ns1.hostingco.com

Just had a new dedicated server built and for some reason, after a couple of hours, the domains name servers jump round the opposite way. Once this happens, the site goes down....

Could the fact the name servers are appearing ns1 then ns0 be the problem?

Only if they are not synchronised.

Where exactly do you see this "move around"?

It is probably the case that DNS hasn't propogated fully (48 - 96 hours).

Have you run nslookup to check that the namservers are showing as authoratitive?

The switch is in the domain control panel. We get an email saying the nameservers have been updated. (ns0 then ns1) everything is OK for about 2 hours then they jump round to ns1, ns0.

Ive had a look at nslook up and it seems that is cant even find the domain...

and guess what?? It's just gone live!

I actually just checked before I logged on again and it is resolving for me now.

only one nameserver showing for "set type=NS" though and it's neither of the ones listed at NOMINET.

As far as my knowledge it doesn't matter in what order you give but make sure you give in the order the host says to avoid any risks.
