There are several and any of them are suitable

It all depends on what you plan to do with a server.

Imho, rather than confused with which one is suitable, better if you define your requirements first (in simple words), like:
- I want to share files with my co-workers
- I need email
- I need an accounting program
- etc.

Then, it'd be easier to find a suitable one.

What are you actually referring to? Physical server machines, or server software (such as apache)?

How many maximum connections do you expect to maintain at a given moment? Is everything local? Give us a bit more information

A server is basically just a PC.

The more load intensive your server software is, Then the amount of power and amount of them will need to be increased.

If you are looking into purchasing a server ready made, DELL.com has a great selection, if you are looking to build your own server from scratch, newegg.com has the best support, they might now be the cheapest, but you pay for the support and return policy. Then you have to decide what type of Operating System to use, I would recommend Linux CentOS with cpanel/whm. Honestly though, the price you pay for collocating a server, your almost just better to rent one.

Pretty broad question, what are you looking to do?
