hi guys,

i have a question regarding domain names and how they are set on web servers.
i have a domain name at the moment which is shackproductionsaustralia.com.au and i have been looking to get it changed. i have admin privleges on the server and can access most funtions and fields.
what i need to know is how i would go about changing the domain name. i know i have to register it and purchase it before i can use it, but once that is done, how do i go about adding it to the server??
can i just replaceme my current domain with the new one?? or does it require a decent amount of web server admin knowledge??

also, not sure if i posted this in the right section so appologies if i didnt.

any help any one could gie would be greatly appreciated.

many thanks,

1) Go to your hosting control panel and go to domain panel and add address of your domain to it.
2) Then you should ask your name servers from your hosting server support.
3) Then go to control panel for your domain and change name servers to what your server's support told you.
Its finished.

Tell us what control panel you have and the answers will be better.

You should be able to host more than one domain on most accounts.

thanks for the replies guys!
ok so first off i am using Plesk which i have admin rights access to
however, i do not have to pay for hosting as the owner of the server is an old boss i used to work for.
being that he is a very busy man, i am trying to avoid hasseling him with this if i can.
i hope this information is what you needed

thanks again guys,

Plesk on Windows or Plesk on Linux because there are some differences.

And he might just change the passwords and cut my access off

well changing the passwords would mean i cant access my own account, so somehow i doubt he will be doing that.
Plesk on Linux. Red Hat to be exact i believe.
