Of course you can.
The only thing is that if you access your files from several os'es, watch which version of the svn client you are using.
The .svn folder keeps a small db with changes, and I had the case where I did an svn update from ssh on the server, which upgraded the db.
The problem was the enxt day, when I tried to do a commit from my workstation, where the svn client was older.
I was greeted with an error trying to commit, that the version was too old.
