I've had this problem twice in the last few days, once when transferring a Wordpress database to a new location, and now again when uploading a separate (static) website to my client's hosting account.

It seems that some characters get replaced by a series of unusual, different characters.

See in the attached image, how an apostrophe has been replaced where it's meant to say 'St David's Park Hotel'.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be??

Make sure you have not changed character set of the database or Content-Type in HTML file.

Ah right. The content-type will have been the same (I think) but the wordpress site I moved might have had it's character set changed.
