use this to generate your sitemap:
http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
and upload it to your web root, so it will reside somewhere like:
http://www.yourdomaininhere.com/sitemap.xml
then you need to tell Google it's there by creating an account at Google's Webmaster Tools and submitting it to them.
Very handy for SE robots if your site has a complex navigational structure.

XML sitemap
And NO it does not help your site get crawled, it simply helps SE discover pages on a website that may no get found naturally.

I'm ever hopeful that it will sink in that they could actually learn to do things for themselves.
Didn't your mother keep saying "I won't always be here to iron your socks"
It always amazes me on how many people ask simple questions about search, I figured ou long ago, that if you want to find out how Search and search engines work, you need to learn how to use Search using the search engines first!

My mother did say that. To prove her wrong, I mail my socks for ironing on a weekly basis. In her defense, I've yet to receive any back.
When you look at it like that, the entire SEO forum really shouldn't need to exist. Other than for link dropping purposes, of course...

Maybe forums could actually be what they are meant for:-
A place for discussion of a subject and sharing of knowledge. So many discussions are simply "interactive tutorials" explaining basic principles over and over again.
SEO & SEM is possibly a case of it's own because there is so much mis-information and downright lies of course.

DELETE DELETE
if that happens, this forum will die...well except the General discussion wherein we can virtual slap each other, join the alphabet soup or be the last to post to win (win what??? btw)
there would be nothing else to do here...maybe we can start banning members...

Maybe we need a "library" of resources to show new members before they start posting.

Yeah! A poor choice of wording on my part.
It's simply that we seem to "share" the same thing over and over and over again.
"How do I change the colour of links"
"What use is meta tag"
and so on, such things should be basic understanding, not the subject of a question (at ten different forums) because you are too lazy to read a tutorial (online or print).

Somewhere on the parent URL within the collection of pages that constitues "your website".
Quote:
for example:
URL:mycafe.com/sitemap.xml?
or
only URL:mycafe.com?
please explain to me!
|
So! Is your question actually - Should I give SEs the exact location where the sitemap document can be found, or not?

Give the full address, they can always ignore any part of it that is not needed.
Simple and logical!

Maybe you should look up the definition of Freelancer

???
I am assuming that some words are missing from that sentence.
