That's actually pretty easy.
You create a background image that includes the shadow. You then create a 'slice' that is the width of the background, including the shadow on either side, it only needs to be a few pixels high. Then you set it to repeat vertically as a background of a 'wrapper' div. All the rest of your page goes inside wrapper.

The below method is somewhat difficult than ladynred's method, however if you like to do everything (including your laundry, cleaning toilet etc) with CSS, then you're going to love this:

Thanks for all of your help on my previous shadow inquiry (another post topic)! I was able to create the CSS file and make the shadow appear in the background. I now have a new problem. While i can create the shadow for a set, defined area, i now need to create it in a scaling fashion. Example: http://www.thomasville.com/Stores/. When you type in different zipcodes on this page, the shadow adjusts to the amount of locations the database generates. In my case, i have a search that will generate anywhere from 0 to 10 results. The tabled area will be longer or shorter every time. Help!

i don't believe this will work for my situation as i have a patterned background that i am contending with, as the url i provided shows. any other ideas? I figured out how to do the shadow in CSS for my home page, which has a set size. The search page will bring up random sizes depending on the search result, and i need the shadow to scale, and still work properly with the patterned background, as in this example: www.thomasville.com/Stores/. Type in a few zipcodes and you'll see what i mean.
