I'm sure it's based on location but, what would a guy into css, xhtml, photoshop (expert level), flash and video without allot of programming background be worth to a web company?

Thanks!

This is a stat for the U.S. and then broken down according to metro area.

This varies largely not only on the area but the size of the company and your experience.

That sounds more like it... I have been trying to market my skills in this area. This is only my first response but, the first "web company" offered me $28,000.

I thought this figure was borderline insulting as I can make that much as a freelancer.

Wow, that is an insult. Very important to know what your worth when going after jobs with companies. That's in any industry really.

For a good salary at web design, you need to have a portfolio to present. Entry-level positions generally pay somewhere around 28K. So you were going to a company looking for cheap talent. Keep applying and you will find a company that pays what you are worth.

I've driven through Ohio several times, even broke down there once, but I don't know the demographics and economics there.

In Seattle at least, most places have a designer who does a lot of the image slicing, puts together an html mockup, and then a team of developers who turn it into asp or php and write the logic. With experience and a portfolio, a mid level design job around here probably goes for $60 to $70 K.

LoL Forest... Ohio isn't as desolate as you may think. At least were I'm located. (Cleveland Area)

At 28k that is definitely about half the national average. I can make 28k freelancing from my house.

My goal is to get in with a company that might offer enough salary during the 9-5 hours that I may set aside my freelance work. I need more time for my family.

This might have it's downfalls as well... (The 9 to 5 gig)

I am located in China , the software desingers in china will get a pay of 10K usd per year for average ,but they need do a lot work and only the experience designers worth the pay. if you have a good luck may be the salary will be better, and if you are the project manager you will get about 15-20K usd per year

If you just only a web designer , not develop projects , the salary will be very low.
