I've used FrontPage to build a site but I am not impressed by its limited capabilities (or it could be my limited knowledge thereof). Anyway, I have extra free time and I'd like to teach myself how to design sites using language. So do I get books that teach me HTML, XHTML, JavaScript, CSS, or what?? I am confused as to where or how to start and I am not clear as to how all these languages (??) are related! Thanks!

No, it's not you, it's FrontPage. You hit the glass ceiling. Good on ya.

First and foremost, there's always this site. There are lots of CSS-types who can help you (including LadyNRed, who always has five correct answers to every question as a bare minimum).

http://www.w3schools.com/xhtml/default.asp
http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp
http://www.w3schools.com/js/default.asp

Those are good places to learn XHTML, CSS and Javascript. There are other sites too, but none come immediately to mind and most tend to focus on one or two things (which doesn't make them very handy for a newbie.)

I did it by:

a) looking at lots of other peoples stuff (view source)
b) going down to my local library and geting out whatever they had published in the last year (and taking that with a pinch of salt)

Hmm? webs8? Maybe you should spend some time on English first.

Anyway, different websites take differing amounts of time. Some (static) websites take very little time to make, but others that need advanced login and user systems can take quite a piece of time to make.
