I have a index page already...

i wanted to add a extra page which users see first before going to the main index page. I know i can do this by renaming the index [aghe to like home or something and create new index page but i have a huge site and many pages links back to index.php.

Is thier any way round this or am i buggered lol?

You can set which page is viewed first in .htaccess I think, and in this way override the standard default.. oh, wait a second - you'll have probably done that already to put in index.php rather than .html (or a permanent redirect). I don't know the exact .htacess code, but I think it can be done.

Be wary though - many 'experts' in web design hate portalss, uless you need to separate languages like Wikipedia does.

I think most servers offer a default index page setting EG: htm, html, php, asp, and so on.

Say your index now is html, if you have access to your control panel, you might be able set your main page to index.php. This would force people coming into your site to the index.php but all of your internal links would direct back to your original.

However, I'm not sure why you wouldn't just change the index file you already have?
