PNG is one of my favorite file types for images. PNG at one time was the whole reason I used flash because of how well they work together.

Now, with PNG on the rise again, I am tempted to use them more and more but the risks of someone using IE6 scares me away. I know there is a PNG fix for IE6 (although I can't remember were I saw it )

Is there a hack that covers all the bases? Should I be concerned with using them at all?

Any feedback or suggestions?

The PNG fix works fine, as long as you're not using it for a repeating element, which it doesn't support. There are several out there, I've got 2 different ones, they both work reasonably well.

These days you are pretty safe using the png file format considering many people have made the move to Firefox.

But yes there are issues with ie6 (eg. Background images) which do not show.

Considering that Firefox only has maybe 20% of the browser share, and IE6 is still better than 50%, it's still not all that 'safe' to use PNG's liberally w/o the fix.

Denny, here's the links:
