Ok, currently on my site I have a bookmark link in my navigation bar (link is in my signature, also looking for reviews if you care to). However, I'm uncertain whether or not they really are worth it.

I'm a self taught hobbyist webmaster so I'm not really "in the know" when it comes to some things. I'm just wondering, do bookmark links increase the frequency of people bookmarking your page? Do they just look like extra spam?

I don't think I will keep mine up... it seems like even with it there it only works for IE and not mozilla or opera anyways.

This is something I toyed with a few years ago but don't ever use now, even if a client asks because most users are sensible enough to know where the favorites button is on their browser. If they don't know that then shame on them.

lol, I respect what you're saying, but I don't understand what is "sad"?

'sad' as in er, lame. like you're begging the user to bookmark your site and implying that they're too stupid to know how to add a bookmark otherwise: it's not the 90's any more

I see what you mean .

in my opinion, you should refrain yourself from using "add to boomarks/favorites" links on your, or your clients' website. if people like your site, then they will bookmark it. and like somebody mentioned earlier in the thread, they know how to do it.

having this link might send out a bad signal to vistors about how good a website is doing. on the other hand there are people who look around for such a link. but they are rare to find these days. so, you can safely stay away from them.

Bookmark links are totally out as they don't have cross-browser support. Through i am not sure, IE7 doesnt allow it either.
