the idea with silverstripe is to use it as a base for your own cms, strip it down, skin and strip the backend and use it like a framework (since it is a framework).

As per my review Drupal is the best CMS.A feature is a collection of Drupal entities which taken together satisfy a certain use-case. A feature is a module. This lets each feature get a great deal of Drupal core’s infrastructure out of the box meant for managing, sharing, and updating modules.Drupal uses Apache's mod_rewrite to enable customizable URLs that are both user and search engine friendly.

I think joomla is best because easy to install PHP/MySQL-based hosting environment, and the lots of joomla template is available on the web if you want to choose different themes for your site depending on the structure and orientation.

The arguments are going to be massive.

If it is a small site for clients to edit and you only have minimal html knowledge and php is beyond you, maybe create theme, etc via html and provide them with an open source fontpage like html editor. It is very easy to show people how to drop and drag via ftp and is the easiest to replicate.

Although me, personally love joomla, plugins for a gallery are extremely easy and the ability to create your own theme is even easier. Wordpress backend for CMS I don't like (can also be said for joomla) but everyone is 50/50 on this.

It is just a matter of trial and error.

link drop removed

Just depends on what your client is after

Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress are all great CMS that fit your requirement. I prefer Wordpress amongst all if you don't need advance extensions.

HI

The simplest cms I can recommend would be symphony-cms.
I will admit, I'm using it on a shared host and having some troubles. In fact I haven't got it running, YET. But I can see massive potential.
There are hosts that work with it really well (a list included on their site) and most users recommend dedicated hosting for it..

But it's pretty much a blank canvas. You can use the GitHub repository install method for one that auto-updates, or just a .zip package which you install manually.

There is a ton of Extensions and Utilities which make it possible to do just about whatever you want. These can also run through GitHub to stay up to date. Also with some know-how you can make your own stuff too.

I use it because I need to upload Flash and create many 'one-off' pages with different features.

Cheers
