Very Sneaky. Let me know if any of you try this...

Here's a neat idea for taking advantage of those new Hit-
Swapping services without having to chain yourself to the
computer.
For those who've been living in a cave, there's been a rush
lately of what I call hit-swapping services where you visit
other people's websites in exchange for receiving hits back
to your site.
On Startblaze, for example, you set your startpage to a
certain URL and every few times you load a browser,
you'll automatically get a hit back to your own site. There
are quite a few services that offer this sort of thing, such as...
http://www.startblaze.com/
http://www.hitharvester.com/
http://www.trafficg.com/
http://www.nomorehits.com/
etc., etc.
(I prefer Startblaze simply because of the good conversion
ratios. For every 15-16 people who see my site on
Startblaze, I get a new subscriber. It takes nearly double
that amount of traffic to generate a subscriber on some
of the other services.)
None of that is particularly revolutionary, but this aspect
of it just might be...
Instead of just using this service on your own computer,
you can reset the startpages of literally hundreds of
computers in your area. Every library, college, internet cafe,
web kiosk, and computer store within traveling distance is
a potential source of free traffic.
All you have to do is change as many default startpages
as you can.
[To do that, on Microsoft Internet Explorer, click Tools,
then Internet Options. From there you can enter the
appropriate startpage URL as supplied by Startblaze or
whomever. On Netscape, you'll click Edit, then Preferences
and do the same.]
In the main and branch libraries in the city where I live,
there are over 120 publicly-accessible computers hooked
up to the internet. Since they're sitting virtually side-by-side,
I could set the homepages on these computers with relative
ease. If I had a sufficient number of Startblaze accounts,
with all of them directing traffic to the website(s) of my
choosing, I could easily generate 200-300 extra hits per day.
Every time someone sat down at the library computers and
loaded the browser, they would see some Startblaze
member's site, earning me credit for visits back to my site.
