I am considering using PHP/form to allow users to send information into a MySQL database. Some of this information would be considered personal. My CPanel has a "SSL Manager" which indicated I needed to obtain a certificate from a trusted authority. It appears that Go-Daddy offers this service for $14.00, far less than other authorities.

Is Go-Daddy a suitable provider? Also once I apply for the certificate what other steps are required to get SSL operational? "The SSL Manager" has a tool to generate a private key. I also believe I need to put the form in a subdomain like https://secure.mysite.com. I not sure how to put this together.

1. The first thing to do is to check if your account is on a dedicated IP (ask web host if you are unsure), you need a dedicated IP address in order to install a SSL cert.

2. generate a CSR key for the domain that you wish to purchase SSL cert (request your web host to do it for you if you are unsure)

3. goto your select certificate seller and go through the purchasing process, you will need the CSR key in the ordering process.

4. once you have the SSL cert in your email, you can install it yourself or request your web host to do it for you.
