I'm building a new web site right now and I want to use a font on my site that Windows users seem not to have on their machines. I'd prefer if I didn't have to make an image for this text as that wouldn't be as usable.

Is there a way to upload a font to your site and tell the browser to render the text using this font. I know I've got the font on my Macbook and a friend on his iMac, but I don't think many Windows users have it.

Is it possible to upload the font and get a browser to render it that way or will I just have to use an image instead?

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated

This is defined in CSS 3 (I believe) but not implemented in any browser as far as I know.

Your solution is named Sifr [ http://www.mikeindustries.com/sifr and
http://wiki.novemberborn.net/sifr ].
I believe our Lady in Red posted something about it some month ago.

Thanks for that tripy - I read something about Sifr before so I'll keep investigating that. Has anyone else got an ideas?

Depending on the font, you can specify a Windows-specific alternative.

Something like:
Code:
font-family:  Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
If you put sans-serif at the end, everyone will end up with SOMETHING for a sans-serif font. You just won't be sure as to what they'd end up with.

you can also do it with flash. i know dreamweaver has an option to add flash fonts.

but that's only suggested to be used for things like nav or titles.

I have to agree, sIFR is a great solution. I've used it a number of times with great success and it's accessible !
