Watch this slide show and pay attention to what this person says.

Hopefully this will shut a lot of you up out there who think that "Web 2.0" is all about gradients and reflected logos and other aesthetic BS.

Yes, web 2.0 is not a design concept, I agree with that. Web 2.0 has absolutely nothing to do with design.

But there is undeniably a distinct look that became popular right around the time web 2.0 became popular. That look generally contains gradients, rounded corners, smooth rounded sans-serif fonts, larger spacing, etc. It just seems that the most popular term to describe this common type of design is "web 2.0", so I'm just going to go along with it.

It's sort of like the word "bat." A bat can be used to hit balls in baseball, or it could be a nocturnal flying mammal. Neither has anything to do with each other, but they still share the same term to describe it.

Great presentation, more people need to understand this whole 'web 2.0' thing. Although I'm guilty of referring to 'web 2.0' in a design context, but only because the non-web designers out there know that buzz word. We have NOT resorted to these so-called 'web 2.0 design elements' in our sites, other than using gradients here and there, which I liked for effect long before this trend started. I have not used the reflection thing on any of our client sites, although I do like the effect if it's used VERY sparingly for certain things. I designed a custom stationary for our web team using that 'reflected floor' idea

darn, it wouldn't load for me, maybe they're having a busy period.

I totally agree with the message though, every time I see "Web 2.0 template for sale" it makes me want to slap someone with a wet kipper

Cool slideshow. I personally think that designs shown on most of the CSS Galleries can be considered 'Web 2.0' but these designers a generally great and show a lot of talent. What I hate is the use of gradients/bevels/reflections etc etc.. for absolutely no reason - and designs that look like anyone could make them.

I dislike the term Web2.0; it brings about too much confusion.

I wonder what web3.0 design will be considered as? Since the growing number of 'lined' sites (e.g. mine) will that become the new?
