Hello,

I am new to web design and have several questions I have been trying to figure out.

My first is how do I update Dreamweaver from XHTML 1.0? There is code at the top of my document that says I am using XHTML 1.0. I've read about the new XHTML 1.1, but from what I can tell it is best to keep to XHTML 1.0. I was just curious how I update this or if I need to update this once my site is up and running.

My next question is my use of div tags. Since I am using Dreamweaver, I am using layers to place my images, links, etc. I have A LOT of div tags in my code. I actually don't mind working with all the divs as I created a template and am applying it to each page. I would like to know what kind of problems all of my divs may cause.

Thank you!

You change the DOCTYPE. DW should have all of the usual DOCTYPES to choose from. To update a whole site, I suggest a site-wide search and replace in DW. XHTML 1.1 is NOT supported by IE.

NO, you are NOT. They are DIVs, despite DW's antiquated insistence on calling them 'layers' (a holdover from the early Netscape days). A div is a DIVision - learn to think of them that way rather than as 'layers'.

Typical when you use DW in WYSIWYG mode, you get div-itis. It's not usually a good thing either, especially with DW's penchant for making EVERYTHING position:absolute.

Could be lots, all depends on the layout !
