Hi All,

Please excuse me if this has been asked a million times (I cant seem to find a thread on it!).

How do I create a border background - like this site http://www.stuff.co.nz/ the shaded border to the left and right of the body).

Any help appreciated.

Regards

Lyndon

Simplest way is to create a graphic with the design you want for the shadowing/border as a thin horizontal section that is the same width as the content column will be. Then set it as the background for the element.

If your width is static (like that site) then you can create a single horozontal image with the drop shadows being defined outside the width of the site. If you want an example, just right-click on the border and select "Save Background As" - open it in explorer and you'll see how they created it.

If you're site is scalable, meaning that it changes width depending on the view or screen resolution of the user, then you'd have to break that image apart and have one for the left and one for the right. Put them into place using CSS and you're all set.

Hope that helps.

If you don't know what I mean by a scalable width, use this website as an example. Maximize the window and see how the page stretches. Also, if you resize your browser window, the site's width will scale as you move it around.

This is a good practice to use but the site you pointed out as a sample has a static width as far as I've seen. But I only visited the index to view the background border.
