I'm a big fan of wordpress, but I think it really comes down to what you want to use the CMS for. Some CMS's are better for setting up different types of websites than others.

Just to clarify my question, I don't Blog. Just music videos, a message board, and standard web content. Should I keep trying to install Joomla, or not bother?

As far as I know, Joomla doesn't have a backend or administrative integration with any message board (except perhaps Fireboard), but there are bridges that will sync them with your user table. If you're looking for a way to display your music videos, though, you should check out the Joomla component called Seyret.

I use Wordpress the most right now. It always does a great job and cuts right to the point when getting setup. I have tried a couple others but haven't had such a fun experience with them. Joomla Drupal SMF PHPBB...recently I tested PUNBB and it was amazing fast but I wish there was more support and features. Joomla could do quite a bit but it seemed so dang complicated to get used to, and I ran into trouble trying to bridge it with other stuff so I gave up. PHPBB is quality for forum stuff.

I would strongly recommend trying a Wordpress front end with a PHPBB forum side by side. I am doing that right now and there is lots of possibilities.

If you don't plan to edit or change things on your website a lot, I don't think you need CMS. I don't know Joomla, but if it is similar to Typo3 it is quiet laborious in the beginning to set everything up. If you plan to keep your webpage flexible and to add content on a regular basis, it is worth the effort.

Joomla really stinks, for a few bucks you can get much better and more user friendly managers

I was just looking at it mostly for the BB and some sort of integration with my site. Right now, I have two forums that I don't have total control over. If Joomla could keep all my pages looking more uniform, I'd consider it.

Incidently, I did get it to install the first night after a few hours. Then I read where it says to delete the entire installation directory, so I deleted everything... duh huh. Unfortunately, I can't remember what I did.

I have worked in Joomla, Wordpress, and Drupal, and prefer Wordpress for blogging, and Drupal for anything else. I know the most, by far, about Wordpress.

Joomla and Drupal are both great full CMS's. However, our web design company was completely crafted using word press as a CMS.

You are correct that fireboard is the only forum that directly integrates with joomlas CMS, however I find it a very poor excuse for a forum and it is not too difficult getting php, SMF, or Vbulletin to work in conjunction with joomla.

I think you need to master at least 2 different CMS packages.
Depending on what each site is for you'll probably need a different package.
Most of these recommendations tend to be for larger sites whereas most sites are fairly basic and speed and flexibility are key. This generally means a very fast, simple CMS whereas you'll need a more feature rich one for larger sites.
I particularly like ones that create lots of sites from one install.

I love me my WordPress.

Then again, most of my sites are blogs. Would I use WordPress for a full-scale site? I'm not so sure.

I've used cutenews (FAIL!), fusionnews (it's alrite) and wordpress (awesome but hard for me to code). Drupal sounds pretty good and i'll probably go give it a try. (:

I've used a lot now - WordPress, Blogger (I guess it counts), phpBB, vBulletin, Mambo/Joomla, MovableType 3/4, etc. I guess they all have their ups and downs, right now I'm still liking WordPress most.

I've come to pretty much the same conclusion. I primarily like wordpress because it's simple to set up, I can easily implement it into an existing webpage, and it's easy for users to pick up.

I've used several content management systems over the years, including Drupal, Joomla, e107, Wordpress and several others. The only one I really like is Wordpress and I use that quite frequently.

Try CMS Made Simple. I like it for small projects.

Currently using wordpress and comic cms for my sites, but once i finish coding my own system, I'll use that.

I'm debating on whether to try modx out. Looks decent but I really don't know about the support/docs...Ill have to look into it a bit more and get a feeling for it.

Anyone have personal experience with it?
