Hi; and thanks in advance for any help.

I was recently asked to spring-clean a website - add new news, correct spelling errors by the guy who made it, etc, but the company had little or no knowledge of how everything worked. The guy had used Frontpage, and the company had no idea about FTP or anything. Anyway, I was told to use Windows Explorer to open up the page, and then File>Edit In Frontpage, which I did

In the index, there were two spelling mistakes, which I corrected through the Main view rather than the HTML view (my mistake, I now realise). Anyway, I pressed ctrl+S afterwards, and the page looked the same, just spelling corrected.

A few minutes later, I went back to look at the page. The top banner and some navigation had gone, as had the HTML referring to it. No matter what I tried (inserting the banner and nav HTML, creating a new page and inserting the entire page HTML from a copy I had luckily saved on Dreamweaver), I was unable to get the banner and navigation back. All pages across the entire site have been affected in the same way.

The cell where the banner/navigation goes now has just plain text with the name of the page, and says something like "To view banner, see in navigation view".

Since I know very little about Frontpage, having avoided it like the plague, I'm asking if anyone knows how to fix this.

If you can, you'll have my extreme gratitude.

Have you tried
Insert>Picture (from file)
Then adding to the code?

It's not just the image - it's the entire banner section. And even when we uploaded the original files that we had a copy of on CD, they still wouldn't display right - which makes me think it's a server prob. Thoughts?

Yes it could be the server's problem. Contact them about it. You could also try changing the banner. Or, you could just start all over again.

I don't know that CTRL-S would properly save it in FP. Sometimes if a banner or navigation is not showing on a FP project, it's because it was saved in the wrong place. I suggest checking to make sure the banner/nav is in the correct files for FP. If it isn't saved properly or in the correct file, it will not show on any page and give that error about the navigation view.

Let us know what you find.

DaveMo~, the original pages worked fine, and I haven't changed anything like where files are stored. I literally corrected some spelling. However, I will do what I can to check.

As soon as I saw the page, I recomended a complete re-do, but it makes me look bad if I can't find the solution to the problem.

Apparently they've had FP extensions trouble with the hosts before, so I think they'll contact them and ask what's going on.

Ugh. I hate Frontpage!!

Anyway, thanks for all your help, and I'll get back to you once I've checked the files (which I have to do through FP!!!! No FTP info whatsoever.....)

I am by no means an expert so please disregard if off base.

When I save pages containing images using the save icon, FP sometimes asks if I want to change where the images are stored, and by default wants to switch the properties of the pics to save on my hard drive as opposed to original location.

So when uploaded, the html is pointing to your hard drive as the picture source, as opposed to the real location.

As I said, I am no expert, so sorry if this was useless jiberish.

Good luck

Scott
