There are many different versions of marquees. Marquees add a cool effect to your page, as they allow your text to be mobile.

Up and Down Text

IMHO in 90% of cases, marquee's just look fairly amatuer - its one fo the first things you learn when making websites and most (not all) of the time make your site look unprofessional. Just my 2 cents
