Google announced the release of Google Desktop 3 Beta, which includes enhancements to the Sidebar where users can display of variety of information such as e-mail, news, weather, stock quotes, and maps. Individual panels within the Sidebar can now be dragged anywhere on the desktop. You can now send information from your Sidebar panels to a friend's Sidebar by using e-mail or chat. Online games through the Sidebar can now also be played with your contacts.

So did you install the Google Desktop? Is it worth downloading and installing? I might check out the features.

I've had Google Desktop installed for a while, and it's well worth it. It works so much faster than the default Windows search, and it's easier to search for things within files, as in true Google fashion it shows a snippet of the document. There are also plugins you can install that will index things that wouldn't normally be indexed (for example, I have one that indexes all of my mIRC logs).

The sidebar is great too.
