I was wanting to start up a few basic webpage ideas that I had but it has been a long time since I have worked on the web. The last time I developed web pages was in the late 90s and a lot has changed since then. Since then I have gone more towards programming (C, assembly, Java) and system administration. I want to get back and learn about creating webpages again but I really don't know where to start. I have a copy of dreamweaver and an open mind. If you guys could give me some pointers or point me to some resources to get started quickly I would really appreciate it, thanks.

Yea alot has changed, but start to learn something about html and php, and how to make graphic, i use adobe photoshop, and 3d studio max sometimes.
Get some books, you can find them on the internet.
And then learn something about online marketing, you can get some marketin ideas on this forum.
Have a great time, and i hope you will earn some money one day

I'm an asp.net/c# developer and I'll have to agree with cirko that going the php route is probably a bit easier.

Php is open source and there is a ton of material out there.

Another cool technology/platform that gained a lot of steam in 2006 was Ruby on Rails.

Hope this helps...

PHP is great as far as hosting goes because its a lot cheaper than services that offer asp/.net/jsp hosting etc.

As far as putting sites together goes, these days its all about CSS, and in particular using the <div> tag for creating layouts - not using tables like was the rage back in the 90s

Additionally you may want to look into the possibilities of Javascript (should be easy if you are from a programming background) for making your site stand out with "dynamic" elements.
