I have frontpage and dreamweaver. Can someone give me the lowdown on how to build a website? Is there a site that tells you how to do it, and simple to understand. I need it to be real simple to understand. I can create the pages, its the make it all work in hostrocket that I have a problem doing.

Thanks

Well, normally you'd start by making a nice-looking design in Photoshop, then slice it up and code it up using either Dreamweaver or whatever else. If you want to start off just making a table-based website using Dreamweaver, then I suggest you check out some of these tutorials.

Initially use frontpage. It is easier than dreamweaver. Search google for "frontpage tutorials". Once you're good with fromtpage go for Dreamweaver. It has lots of features.

I know standards don't manage much to IM folks, but I would incourage you to play along anyways. Standards based sites perform better and seem to work better from browser to browser.

Anywho, designing a standards based site is actually kind of a drag, but it can also be really easy.

If it's just a simple content based site, check out Joomla! or any of the other easy-to-use CMS apps. They are free and many of the free templates for them are standards based and quite nice. Upload a logo and some custom pics and you are set.

Joomla!: joomla(dot)com
Free templates at: osskins(dot)com

If you really just want to stick to HTML (hard-to-manage-language), then just out a nice standards based template and just build on top of it. It will really simplify the process for you.

You can get a bunch of nice ones at: freelayouts(dot)com/websites/html-templates

Obviously, you have to replace "(dot)" with an actual "." in the links above. My account is new, so I can't post links yet.

Have fun.

I think pretty much the best thing to do is learn photoshop and dreamweaver. also set a goal for yourself. if you see a website that you like. (design, navigation..functionality). take apart that site. and do your own version of it. if you find something you don't know how to do. google the tutorial. good luck! any questions just PM me! =)
