What do you charge hourly for development, such as PHP/MySQL worK?

It seems to vary, but I'm trying to put together some sort of "average" price that people charge.

Thanks

You should look at guru or elance profiles. Usually it's around $15 per hour.

I UK, London firms pay around £250-£350 per day but those are not freelance jobs. They wan't to do exactly how the stupid boss want's that's why those projects won't ever work. Wrote an article about it - Scam artists, SEO firms and over budgeted IT projects. « Veiko Herne – lifetime entrepreneur with adventurous soul

The question wasn't about SEO work, but for programing work. If you are charging less then 20$ an hour for programing work, you are really missing out and really just hurting yourself in the long run. I don't know of any quality programmers that will even entertain the idea for less then $125 an hour for short term work, and nothing below 50$/hr for long term work.

Funny since now I again see the scope from $25-$125...

Would it be based on amount of experience or location or what?

I'm talking about those untalented programmers that does not take responsibility and do not wrte decent code working for £250-£350 per day in London same time as programmers who really can write decent code and accomplish project within a month-two period are charging only £1500-£2500 per eLance or guru project. I would be more than happy to earn more but those agencies recruiting for overbudgeted projects are not tolerating persons who take responsibilities.

I find it better to charge for the project as a whole.

Agree with Soskel. eLance has been good source for freelancers to find projects. I tested also Guru but that one was not working. Some tips I wrote to my blog - How to get paid Freelance Jobs online and not to get scammed « Veiko Herne – lifetime entrepreneur with adventurous soul

A really good developer probably won't charge less than $50 an hour. Closer to $100. Why? Because the good, experienced developers make that anyway in their day job (assuming they do both).

All depends who are willing to pay and what the project budget is. Similar projects can be done $2K, $20K and $200K. If you are lucky you will get involved with the projects having $200K budgets but there isn't much those left anymore. If you are just good to do your project for $2K. Your skills does not matter and usually those being involved in $200K does not have any skills at all besides bull**** talking skills. $20K should be normal budget but as it was before and is now. There is no middle way, it's either $200K or $2K.
