i have got a link set to download i file from my website and a few various myspace accounts. im looking to have a counter put on it so i can see how many people have downloaded the file.

it doesnt have to be displayed to people. only i need to see it.

i am using html script and i dont know if it is even possible to do so if someone could help me it would be most appeciated.

this is a pretty weird way of doing this but one thing I think will work is on the link for downloading, instead of putting a link to the file, put a link to a blank page with a counter on it and set a redirect to go to the file after like 2 seconds. That way when a user clicks the link it will go to a blank page and record on the counter and then it will redirect them to your file. I am not even 100% sure if that will work but i dont see why not. There are probably better ways of doing it but i do not know how

I actually use a similar feature for my site, to track the number of downloads. As far as I know though, the only way to really do this is to track how many clicks were down on the download link, and then just assume that everyone who clicks the link actually downloads the program.

There is no real simple way to track the number of actual downloads for a link, other than tracking the number of clicks.

Why can't you just look in your server log to see how many times the file was downloaded? It'll have other useful info like times of day, IP address, etc.

ok well i am able to view my log by each month but i am unable to see a readout of all the months from this year.

is there any way that i can attach a counter of some description? i have seen wedsite visitor counters and i was thinking that something similar could be applied to what i want.

does any one know of anything that could help me??
