My boss wants me to make a site map and he thinks it would be good to have EVERY link... Is it more important to have every page or a helpful, well organized guide?

Do people really use site maps or is it mostly for Google PR?

Yes, people use site maps, and it's NOT just for Google PR.

CoffeeCup software has a FREE Google Sitemap Generator that's easy to use.

So, what format do we use for the sitemap? I found an app that does site maps, and it will save as a .site or export to a different file type for Google. I thought it would be html myself. And then we would place a link to it?

Actually I believe Google prefers an XML sitemap, but you can do it in HTML.

There are two sorts of sitemaps -- one for your users and one for the spiders. The XML one is for the spiders. The HTML one is for your users (though the spiders will crawl it also). I would make the HTML one easy to navigate if you go along that path.

Personally, I have an HTML one AND and XML one and I think that's the best way to do it if it's easy for you to set up.

What's inside the .site file? Personally, I've never heard of such a thing.

I'd never heard of it either, but that is nothing new for me. It looked pretty in the program. And aren't you supposed to be on vacation?

sitemap is not for PR but for better indexing of your site. You are helping search engine bots to easily find your internal pages.
