Hello everyone,

I'm a long-time print designer, who realizes that I will lose my career if I don't learn Web Design real soon lol.

Anyway, I know a little bit of html, understand the basics of css, and can sort of navigate my way around Dreamweaver. However, there is something that has me stumped, and I am embarrassed that I have to ask, but I really want to know!

I recently set up a wordpress blog, and applied one of their basic free laytouts. It's beautiful. I wanted to know what it looked like in code, so I copied it and pasted the code into DW. Everything showed up perfectly- even the background image!

So my question is... how does that happen? How does this beautiful background graphic appear in Dreamweaver without an image file? I looked at the code and couldn't find an image reference there, either. I'm sure this is something real basic that I just don't know about... so please pardon my ignorace, but if can tell me how that happens I would be so grateful!

Thank you!

I'll bet it's imported with css somewhere. It's hard to say without seeing the code.

I would suggest getting Web Developer Plugin for Firefox. This will allow you to view ALL of the elements on any page you want.

There may be a hard link to the image file somewhere (html or css).
You might want to use CTRL+F and try to locate the reference to the image name.

The images itself could be linked to the website you copied it from. For example, instead of having an image link like this: paper.jpg, you could have www.google.com/paper.jpg . This would show the image no matter where you put it.

Or in the very header you could have a CSS file. Names *.css (where * could be anything). In this case, the CSS is probably also linked the same way I did my image example.

So what's so special about the CSS file?

It's responsible for EVERYTHING you see. It arranges content, puts in images, changes text, positions things, and even causes roll-over effect.
