I have just purchased a website for my fiance and I's wedding. I have been out of the website designing field for quite some time and am looking to figure out the easiest way to get an upload form on my website.

Basically what I want to do is make a page where someone can go to, upload say 5 images at a time by browsing and then upload directly to my webserver. The end goal is to put out the website at the wedding and have people upload images directly to the website.

I'm just not sure what to use (scripting etc) to do it, and how to do something like not have it overwrite the filenames if they already exist on the server.

I have FTP access to my webserver, just need an idea of what to do. Thanks for the help. If I am asking too much for free advice, I will pay for your services to help me out with this page. Thanks!

Mate,
There's is nothing to pay for!

I am happy to give you some of my knowledge. Sharing knowledge is free!

OK, I'd use PHP to upload images to a webserver. You will need some validation in the PHP script which will make sure that the file isn't overwritten. That's the basis of uploading images to your server.

Feel free to ask any more questions.

Take a look at any of the many gallery scripts.

There may already be one in your hosting control panel for a quick easy install.

You won't need to know or learn any PHP if you can use an "out of the box" install.

I wish there was but I don't see anything at all in my control panel. I have Network Solutions, where would it be?

Take a look at the scripts at the link below. You just need something very simple. Look at the descriptions and see what meets your needs. You should be able to find something for free. You will need to go through some setup procedure and ftp the script files to your site.

A heads up on Network Solutions. They have a reputation for domain squatting if you registered your domain with them. Last I looked, they were expensive as well. For a hobby site you shouldn't be paying more than $5 or so per month on a 6 month contract.

Ok, I'm clueless.

I went to the link you provided and downloaded idutgallery. I installed it via the readme file. It said to access it by accessing index.php. When I point to that address it asks me if I want to save index.php to my computer as if it is a file not a web address. What am I doing wrong?

Whats the link to the script you downloaded. I'll download it and see what you need to do. It may take me a couple of days to get to it though.

Either that or post the link to the index file you are trying to access so we can see what its asking you. I assume you ftp'd it to your sites root directory or a subdirectory.
