ok, well, i'm looking to throw together a website that can easily make some $, probably through site-traffic ads?
Just throw out some ideas. I want something thats not very big, and is not easy, but not overly-complicated to make. I am not looking for some new idea, I just need the thing thats been done 1000 times and still works.

Well, without being too inappropriate... pr0n is a money maker - not encouraging it - just supporting facts that it is the biggest internet money maker.

haha I know, in my opinion its pathetic that your actually right. not to mention it can't be that hard to make a good porn site. but i'm not going to do it anyways, just not much to be proud of lol.

hmm what about a webpage that is basically just a collection of funny pictures that people can submit. i think it would draw some traffic, or am i wrong?

That's a good idea. Flickr had it, slashdot, digg.com, imageshack, myspace, facebook, etc had it too - thats not to say you cant do it - just make sure that if you want to do well - you have fierce competition.

But if it's just for a small network then do whatever you want - then youre the king amogst your target audience

Ya i'm not really looking to contend with them, i know theres 100's out there. But hell, if a little of the traffic is directed my way i'll be happy. I just wanted a project that is not overly complicated, that may make me a few bucks.
I know i myself have googled funny pics and clicked on whatever came up to try and get some pictures to use, i'm sure im not the only one doin that
i'll expand it to video's, quotes, games, jokes, n more eventually too, thats if it goes anywhere

It's pretty easy to make a porn site, yes! To make a good ("good" of course depends on your POV regarding porn) porn site that will actually make money, takes a lot of hard work and investment.

To reinforce what Chris just said. The people that make money in porn either got in very early, really know their stuff, or are part of very well funded companies.

Because people have attitudes of "its easy money" scam artists are all over the industry (like they aren't on the internet in general). Because of the size of the industry, it is extremely competitive. Anyone thinking about it better really know the industry, web design, etc., or you will fail.

This isn't a comment pro or con on the industry, but rather a warning to those that think this is an easy way to make money on the internet - it isn't. Its probably the most difficult way to make a buck.

BTW - I don't do adult. I do study their marketing strategies.
