Well since I suck with making eye candy, I need to buy a layout. I do web design and web hosting, what would you suggest from here. Layout numbers work just fine.

I like Item: #19764. Its simple but looks very nice and professional. If your looking for a layout though you want to be your own and not be worried about someone else having the same one, I would say design your own.

I suppose that maybe it's a template for a web host's site? Even so I think you're right that this probably should be in one of the more appropriate forums.

However, my question to the OP is how can you call yourself a web designer if you're looking to use a template? Isn't that what automated CMS/sitebuilder type systems are for (i.e. cut out the "designer" and use a template which someone else did... then anyone without technical knowledge can just type away with their content etc.)?

IMHO someone who does web design should be designing their own template(s) - otherwise I'd be a bit upset as a client paying for a design service when I find out that my site is actually like 1000 others...?

Edit: Oh, but of course getting design inspiration from templates isn't necessarily a bad deal - but you should aim to create something unique incorporating ideas prompted by viewing various templates which appear to work well.

It seems that I do understand what he is about. He is looking to0 start web project and he is absolutely right that if he is looking to be sucessful he needs to have at least good web design. For that I would recommend you put request here on the right place or search for the templates in the web. But as rule templates are being offered on the web hosting provider's web sites. Look at glowhost.com - they offer as template collection here as well as webhosting here
