I have an image of 15k as my header, it is the background image for the header in my css container(header) i would like to know if i can use a spliced image for this as the rest of the page is text and loads quicker than the header, alternativly i thought i would have a small image asking the viewer to wait and then the header go over the top of the small image, but not sure how to achieve this, any guidance welcome.

15k is not a very large image. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. However, if you want some advice, it would be easier for us to help you if you give us a link to the page in question.

Well, I'm not noticing any loading issues (my internet speed is blazing fast, however). If you want to make an image that says "wait", you could make a tiny image as a background, that loads very fast, then have the larger image as an <img> tag inside of the header.

But as I said before, I pretty much wouldn't worry about it. The way it loads is pretty much the same as the majority of sites out there...

The whole page weight comes out to a mere 15KB, that's not a problem.

Howdy all
Thankyou for your comments, i know it works okay on speeds better than dial up, but i live out in the donga in australia and can only get dialup which i noticed that the header was slow and would like to do something about it. I am 61 yrs old and this is my first attempt at a css website i would love to achive it using a database for the pictures but maybe later. Could you please explain to me how i can get a small image to load then the large one over the top of it, remember the header image is a background image in the css header.
Thankyou for the replies
p.s pictures 4,6, and 7 are me sailing this summer
