Don't know of one I would recommend, simply because I have never had need of one, or looked for work from one.

and look around the forums for helpful members who are designers and contact them.

I'd look in a local directory of them, because I think that it helps to meet up with them, or at least to be able to know where they are if anything goes wrong. Find someone personable if you are likely to need guidance - particularly if ideas need working through.

Creative Hotlist is a good resource to look for jobs or simply post your resume for employers to find you.

I agree that you should try to find a local designer. Local designers will be less inclined to screw you over, and they may even have more competitive prices. However, that will depend on your area.

Remember though, just because a designer is listed, doesnt mean they are credible. Do a little research before you decide on someone.

CL is a good option... but beware of scams... it was a great site, but is going down hill

I know one. Wickedinnovations.com offers web designing, so surely, they can recommend a good designer for you.

The people I know that have posted ads on Craigslist have said that the results are "scary". I definitely don't recommend them.
